THE GRADUATE RECORD EXAMINATION (GRE)

The GRE is a 3-hour 45-minute computer-adaptive test (CAT) that has three sections: An

Analytical Writing Assessment, a Quantitative Section, and a Verbal Section.

• Max. Score: 340
• Students applying for a graduate program in any field other than Business

are generally required to take the GRE to pursue an education abroad.

• The GRE General Test contains sections that measure verbal, quantitative, and

analytical writing skills.

    OVERVIEW OF GRE TEST SECTIONS

 Analytical Writing Section

• 2 Essays
• 60 minutes in total
  • 30 minutes for the "Issue" essay
  • 30 minutes for the "Argument" essay
• Tests your ability to communicate complex ideas concisely and effectively, evaluate claims and evidence, support ideas using logical reasoning and relevant examples, and use standard written English to prove an argument.

Quantitative Section

• 2 Sections, approximately 20 questions each
• 35 minutes
• Tests basic math topics in arithmetic, algebra, and geometry, plus your ability to problem solve and analyze data
• Questions types: Quantitative Comparisons, Problem Solving, Data Interpretation.

Verbal Section

• 2 Sections, approximately 20 questions each
• 30 minutes
• Tests ability to analyze sentences and writing passages, including understanding key concepts and vocabulary-in-context
• Question types: Reading Comprehension, Text Completion, Sentence Equivalence.

Experimental Section

• The experimental section will either be math or a verbal section. It varies from test to test.
